Apps worth having

Emergency+

The Australian Triple Zero app — gives the 000 operator your exact GPS coordinates. Free. Install it before you ride.

Crash detection

Built into iPhone 14+ and Pixel 7+ — it can call for help if you come off and can't. Turn it on in settings.

RACQ (or your state's club)

Roadside assistance. Save the number before you leave mobile range.

Satellite messenger

For genuinely remote routes, a Garmin inReach or SPOT will get a message out where phones can't.

Before you ride

Fuel up — and know where the next stop is. Some legs run 150km+ between bowsers.
Tell someone your route and when you'll be back.
Check tyres, chain and brakes — the basics catch most riders out.
Pack water and a basic kit for the long days.
Ride your own ride. The road will still be there next weekend.
